GETTING STUCK IN THE MUD? HERE’S THE 4 THINGS TO DO

Getting stuck in the mud?

Driving through mud safely is what every driver must learn. Failure to learn simple driving tips that will help you to always climb out of the mud when you get stuck will turn your tears of laughter into tears of frustration.

To begin with, you need to ensure your tires are in good condition with good pressure. Getting traction aids in your car as well. A bag of sand or gravel is also important. Keeping a car jack and others in your vehicle is important to overcome this challenge.

In most cases, when you find yourself getting stuck in the mud, it may be that you did not check the depth of the mud very well before passing through. Even after checking, some slow mud may be difficult to get through.

Well, here are the 4 things to do.

  1. Turn On Your Hazards Light to Alert Oncoming Vehicles

To prevent traffic and other vehicles coming from getting stuck in the mud, it is important to put your hazard lights on. Simply shove off the visible buttons so that the hazard lights will blink to alert oncoming vehicles of an impending danger.

  1. Turn the Vehicle Wheel Straight & Turn on Gas Padle Slowly

If you suppose you can still make your way through, then turn the driving wheel straight and try pressing on the gas paddle slowly with the gear level down. If you find yourself skidding and spinning continuously, stop and reduce traction.

  1. Reduce Traction Through Sand, Gravel or Flat Stick

To reduce traction so that the vehicle can easily move through the mud, move the car backwards small. With a shovel, fetch all mud patches that are preventing the car from moving, poor a little amount of sand or gravel to reduce traction. With you gear down, steering wheel straight, press slightly on  the gas pedal gradually until you move through the mud.

  1. Call For Emergencies If things Are Tough

If you realize that the mud is deep and coming through is not possible, the best thing to do is to sit down in your car and call for emergencies. If you want to come out to stop coming vehicles to come to your assistance, make sure you check your mirror and come slowly so you don’t fall down in the mud.

HOW TO DRIVE THROUGH MUD SAFELY

HOW TO DRIVE THROUGH MUD SAFELY

If you don’t know how to drive through mud safely, you can move from can be in a serious mess, stress and frustration. Knowing how to drive through mud is very important these due to unfavorable weather changes and improper roads.

So here we go the 5 steps to take to drive through mud safely.

  1. Check the Depth of the Mud Before Driving Through

The very first step to drive through mud safely is to check the depth of the mud. If you don’t take the time to check through the mud well, you may get stuck. There are actually shallow mud and deep mud. It is easier to drive through shall mud than deep mud.

The way you check is to simple get of your car with a small stick in your hand and then dip it in the mud, to measure the depth. By doing so you can quickly ascertain whether it is a deep mud or shallow mud and then find a way to drive through it safely.

  1. Engage the Traction Control & Switch to 4WD

The traction control located on the dashboard console is a key to help the car to climb out of the mud. The traction control helps to reduce the friction between the tires and the break when you begin turning the driving wheel and moving.

You can move on to 4H or 4L if you need more boost to climb out of the mud. Most vehicles have 4H or 4 L which helps to engage all the four wheels of the vehicle while driving through the mud.

  1. Move to a Slower Gear

It is also important to turn the gear level to a slower or lower level to enable the traction control performs its jobs. A slower gear level also helps the car to move slowly and gradually reducing the grip of mud on the tires while moving.

  1. Go on Easy With Gas and Break While Controlling the Front Wheel Skid

Skidding happens when you are turning your steering wheel but you realize the car is moving straight. This is often caused by mud patches which holds up the tires when begin stepping on the gas and breaks.

To control the skidding, it’s very important to check if you can put some bricks, stones or sticks under the skidding tires while at the same time go easy on the gas and breaks slow and gently until you drive through the mud slowly.

  1. Check Up on the Car And Move to Lower Gear to Toss Off Mud

Once you move through the mud, the next thing to do is to park the car and checkup. Ensure that no environmental hazards have affected the state of your car. Once through, reduce your gear to a lower level to toss of mud on the tires and also reduce pressure on the engine and wheels.

ARE YOU TAILGATING—FOLLOWING A VEHICLE TOO CLOSELY?

ARE YOU TAILGATING—FOLLOWING A VEHICLE TOO CLOSELY?

Do you tailgate? Do you follow the vehicle in front of you too closely?

Tailgating is described as an aggressive behavior of following the vehicle driving in front of you too closely to the extent that the distance between the two does not guarantee to void collision. The effect of tailgating is rear end collisions of vehicles.

Research by Smart Motorist has revealed that hard cars (sport cars and SUV’s) are prone to tailgating that hard cars (family and economy cars). They also revealed that more female SUV drivers are also prone to tailgating than male SUV drivers.

Tailgating is actually caused by the following factors:

  1. Preventing Cut-Ins
  2. Negligence
  3. Coercion

Preventing Cut-Ins

Prevention of cut-ins is the primary cause of tailgating. In this case the leading vehicle prevents the following vehicle from over taking on the left or the right so they follow the car ahead of them closely to prevent cuts-ins. This leads to tailgating which has a serious tendency to cause road traffic crashes.

Coercion

Preventing Cut-Ins may lead to coercion which further intensifies tailgating. Prevention of cut-ins is actually an aggressive driving behavior which causes the following driver to engage in road rage.

The following vehicle may often decide to punish the leading vehicle by aggressively blowing their horn, putting on their headlight or indulging in bad driver conduct. All this leads to road traffic collisions.

Negligence

You can too sure of your driving skills that you open up yourself to tailgating. Often times, experienced drivers tend to follow the next vehicle too closely which may stem from over confidence, time factors or any other concerns.

So how do you avoid tailgating?

The best way to avoid following tool closely is use the three seconds time elapse method. Ensure that you have at least 3 seconds following distance between you and the leading vehicle. Nonetheless, this will increase depending on your speed, weather and driving conditions.

MAINTAINING THE RIGHT FOLLOWING DISTANCE WHEN DRIVING

MAINTAINING THE RIGHT FOLLOWING DISTANCE WHEN DRIVING

When driving, it is very important to maintain the right following distance between the vehicles in front of you. This is very important to avoid rear end collisions, road rage, highway accidents, highway fatalities and road accident injuries.

But then what is the right following distance to maintain between the vehicles in front of you. Road Traffic Authorities have over the years determined varying following distances between vehicles. But ideally, determine your following a distance is based on the following:

  • Your speed level
  • Driving conditions
  • The type of car you’re driving.

The ideal varying following distances based on speed entails the following:

  • 2 seconds following distance for 0 to35mph.
  • 3 seconds following distance for 36 to 60 mph.
  • 4 seconds following distance for 61+ mph.

These are just the general following distances based on speed levels. But the distances also changed based on driving conditions at the moment. As a general rule avoid tailgating, following the vehicle in front of you too closely.

The following sets up the general rule to vary the distance under different circumstances.

  • Inclement Weather & Heavy Traffic: During inclement weather conditions and heavy traffic on the road, it is prudent to double the 3 seconds following distance to 6 seconds to prevent rear end collisions.
  • Poor Weather Conditions: Under very poor weather conditions like heavy rain, heavy snow and heavy storm, it is very important to triple the 3 seconds to 9 seconds as well ensure that your speed levels are also appropriate.

How to Maintain the Right Following Distance

The time lapse method is a good way to ensure you leave the right distance between you and the vehicle in front when driving. The time lapse method checks whether you are abiding with the time rules for each situation.

How do you do that?

  1. Mark a stationary body on the other side of the road between you and the following vehicle, like a light pole.
  2. When the car in front of you just passed that object, begin to count the seconds based on your speed levels and the weather conditions at the moment.

For the general 3 seconds rule, when the vehicle in front of you just passed, count, “ 1 1 thousand, 1 2 thousand and 1 3 thousand.” It It takes 3 seconds to count this.

HOW TO CONTROL COSTS IN FLEET MANAGEMENT

HOW TO CONTROL COSTS IN FLEET MANAGEMENT

The whole essence of fleet management is to control costs, mitigate risks and maximize profitability in fleet operations. So it does not make sense if corporate or commercial vehicles are properly managed without controlling fleet management costs.

Fleet management is simply the management of commercial and private vehicles. This management function can be done in-housed or outsourced to a fleet management service providers.

No matter the option chosen, the right fleet management systems and software must be put in place to ensure that everything is done well.

Fleet management software like GPS vehicle tracking devices, speed governors and many others are crucial in managing fleet. Including advance GPS Fleet Management Software which helps track and diagnose vehicle health is very important.

To control costs in fleet management the following functions should be handled with optimum care:

  1. Vehicle Idling
  2. Vehicle Safety
  3. Vehicle Maintenance
  4. Speed Management
  5. Fuel Management

Vehicle Idling

Vehicle Idling is one of the costs of associated with fleet. This includes running the vehicle on a stationary mode. This misconduct by drivers goes a long way with regards the fuel ranges. GPS Tracking devices can help check on this misconducts which tends to waste enormous amount of fuel.

Vehicle Safety

Maintaining vehicle safety is crucial. Theft, road accidents and injuries are serious costs associated to fleet. GPS tracking devices have been proven to reduce these costs associated with risk. By tracking vehicles it becomes easy to control driver conducts and check on the current location of the car.

Vehicle Maintenance

To mitigate the risk of total breakdown of vehicles, it is important to ensure regular checkup and diagnostics. Advanced fleet management software connected to the vehicle’s engine and the inbuilt car computer is able to collect data for regular monitoring rather than relying on guess work of employees which could lead to vehicle break down.

Speed Management

Speed control is very important to prevent road accidents and ensure vehicle safety. Through the installation of quality speed governors, fleet managers can help limit and “govern” the speed rate of drivers.

Fuel Management

Fuel is a big cost in fleet management. That means systems must be put in place against fuel abuses and vehicle idling. Drivers may be tempted to use company fuels for their private runs which will affect the company’s bottom line. The way to control this is to measure fuel levels, take receipt of all fuel intake, track vehicle and check on vehicle distances and fuel consumptions regularly.

HOW TO REMOVE & REPLACE YOUR SPEEDOMETER CABLE

HOW TO REMOVE & REPLACE YOUR SPEEDOMETER CABLE

Managing speed is a key issue when it comes to controlling road accidents.

Without a working speedometer, many drivers are doom to over speeding. For a speedometer to work well, all the three functional elements –speed sensor, cable and computer—must be working very well.

The Speedometer cable is very important because it helps transmit speed waves to the vehicle’s computer which interprets and displays them on the speedometer screen. Bad speedometer cable related issues have the tendency to cripple the passage of speed data to the car’s in built computer.

To remove the speedometer cable, follow the following process:

  1. Remove the engine cover and check the instrument cluster leaving the car body. In there lies the speedometer cable—a thick black wire.
  2. Remove the bolts and nuts which connect the speedometer cable to the dash board. Once done, you will get access to the old speedometer cable.
  3. Remove the nuts, clamps and engine compartments from the dash board and pull out the old cable through the passage.

To replace a new cable, follow the following procedures:

  1. Fix the square end of the new cable to the adapter and the other end to the rotating shaft.
  2. Pass the new cable through the passage and tighten the bolts at the rear square end.
  3. Connect and fix the clamps, engine cover and all nuts and ensure that everything is done properly.

Once you have fixed and connected your speedometer cable, check and ensure that everything is working—make sure the cable is able to transmit speed data from the sensor to the car’s computer displaying on the speedometer screen.

WHY CHEAP SPEED GOVERNORS MAY NOT BE EFFECTIVE

WHY CHEAP SPEED GOVERNORS MAY NOT BE EFFECTIVE

The purpose of speed governors is to govern, regulate and control vehicle speed.

For the speed governor to execute these functions accurately and properly, all the parts must be working very well. All the parts must be operational and functional.

Due to the clutter of saving money, many drivers are buying cheap speed governors.

Your cheap speed governor may not be effective!

One of the wings of the speed governor scandal is selling of low quality and cheap speed governors. Many technology operators compromise their quality and faulty speed governors which leads to road accidents.

An article published by Hivisasa indicated that the installations of faulty speed governors are responsible for major road accidents.

Speed governors are supposed to limit speed at the required level so that drivers do not over speed and expose themselves to road accidents!

This is not the case with cheap speed governors.

Many cheap speed governors sold by low quality and unapproved technology dealers seem to be lacking many technological specifications which temper the speed limit check.

Asian Age noted that the driving cause for the continual production, shipping and distribution of faulty speed governors is to reduce cost.

The writer noted, “While an original speed governor costs anything between `5,000 to `6,000, a fake may cost half the amount. But here’s the catch. At least three key components in the fake speed governor are either missing or their technical specifications are compromised — the electronic control unit, fuel control valve and the speed sensor

The bottom line therefore is to choose quality over cheap speed governors.

Cheap speed governors may cost less but in the long term it may cost much more than that. It has the tendency to cause road accidents, take lives and destroy auto property!

THE IMPORTANCE OF USING QUALITY SPEED GOVERNORS

THE IMPORTANCE OF USING QUALITY SPEED GOVERNORS

Simply put, quality speed governors are good!

Quality speed governors help the State to reduce road carnage, ensure road safety, protect the lives of pedestrians and also the vehicles themselves. Quality speed governors help the State to achieve the purpose for instituting speed governor schemes.

The low quality rating of many speed governors in the market have in effect compromise road safety and  escalated the already burning flames of road traffic accidents.

Low quality, faulty and fake speed governors sold in the market does not help deal with the issue of reckless over speeding which seems to be a leading cause of road traffic accidents. The net result is the effect on vulnerable road users—pedestrians and passengers.

The use of quality speed governors must therefore be emphasized and campaigns so as to ensure that all commercial and public transport vehicles use the prescribed speed governors. This will ensure safety on the road and reduce the alarming increase of road accidents.

Exceeding driving speed limits is an offence punishable by law. Drivers caught in this act must face the rigors of the law to serve as a deterrent for others.

Encouraging the use of quality speed governors must be stressed so as to help drivers to drive and stay within their speed limit to ensure road safety.

Quality may cost much at the beginning. But in a null shell, quality costs less. Buying fake, faulty and low quality speed governors in the name of saving money is a foolish decision. You can’t afford to save money, die and leave the money behind.

Quality costs less! Drivers must ensure the buy quality speed governs approved by the state, endorsed by users and auto mechanics. All this will go a great way to ensure safety on the roads, protect livelihood and the living standards of people.

THE DANGERS OF USING FAKE SPEED GOVERNORS

THE DANGERS OF USING FAKE SPEED GOVERNORS

Speed governors help limit vehicle speed.

This limits the amount of time it takes to stop a vehicle, control the vehicle and take critical actions to prevent road accidents. Speed governors generally maintain vehicle speed so as to prevent over speeding on the road.

But what a pity these days when many technology operators are now selling fake speed governors in the market. This does not only compromise the lives of the people in a vehicle operating on fake speed governors, but it also causes serious losses to the State.

Business Today and other notable media houses revealed that many technology providers are now installing fake speed governors in vehicles. It is rather unfortunate that the police and other State authorities are not able to track this!

These faulty and fake speed governors are said to be lacking quality and technical specifications. Many of them have some technical equipment missing or not properly working well. The three technical units often missing are:

  • Electrical Control Unit
  • Fuel Control Unit
  • Speed Server

The alarming increase in road accidents has necessitated the use of speed governors to control vehicle speed. But it’s a pity when speed governors which are meant to control vehicle speed and prevent road accidents are also fake. This is like moving from frying pan to fire!

Sources revealed that the reason for this dubious and inhuman act among unethical technology operators is to cut down cost and make profit. While original speed governors cost much, the fake speed governors cost just a fraction of it.

Since people want cheap things. They buy fake and go through many painful and excruciating experiences! These include technical problems with vehicles, road accidents, loss of lives and loss of properties!

Do you want to buy or install a speed governor for your vehicle?

Choose quality over cheap!
