Why You Must Follow Your Manufacturer’s Schedule for Vehicle Maintenance

Why You Must Follow Your Manufacturer’s Schedule for Vehicle Maintenance

One of the things we all love to have is vehicles. Vehicles have served us well since they were invented. There’s no argument about that. But they have also led to many chaos and disasters. This is simply because the owners of the vehicles have failed to stick with basic vehicle maintenance practices, care and safety.

Many drivers, after buying their new vehicle and driving it from the lot, that’s the end. They don’t stick with the manufacturer’s schedule for vehicle maintenance. They also fail to heed to basic vehicle maintenance practices and principles.

Well, here are 5 reasons why you must follow your manufacturer’s schedule for vehicle maintenance:

  1. Prevent Voiding Vehicle Warranty

Vehicle warranty is a system that has been set aside by vehicle manufacturers to protect the vehicle, ensure efficiency and extend the life span of a vehicle. Typically, most warranties cover 3 years or 60,000 miles after the date of purchase against defects that will enable the vehicle to malfunction.

But this is not automatic.

Your manufacturer is not under obligation to repair or replace faulty parts of your vehicle if you fail to follow basic maintenance practices noted in the Owner’s Manual. If you fail to follow the owner’s prescription to maintain the car, you’re risking voiding your warranty.

  1. Extend Vehicle Life Span

If you want to extend the life span of your vehicle, you simply have to stick with your manufacturer’s schedule for vehicle maintenance. Basic vehicle maintenance practices such as changing oil, checking tire pressure, checking gas type, replacing air filter and all others have clearly been outlined in the Owner’s Manual.

These things are not just outlined; there have been given detailed description. For example, your Owner’s Manual can guide you on the type of oil and gas to use for your vehicle. If you keep using the wrong vehicle ignorantly, you’ll realize that you’re unknowingly reducing the life span of the vehicle.

  1. Save Money on Repairs

The general rule in vehicle maintenance is that if you keep to a regular schedule for maintenance, you’ll save money on repairs on the long term. If you spend a little to replace defunct parts of your car, do regular checkup and wash your car, you’ll realize that you will save money on the long term on doing huge repairs.

Failure to stick to manufacturer’s schedule for vehicle maintenance can cause your vehicle to crush down; this might cost you a lot of money to repair and deal with. To avoid these things, the best thing to do is to always ensure you keep your vehicle intact. Regular vehicle maintenance will help your vehicle  to perform better and ensure your safety.

Check Engine Light: What is Its Purpose on the Dashboard?

Check Engine Light: What is Its Purpose on the Dashboard?

The advent of modern technology has made it easy to track and monitor the health of vehicles on regular basis. Vehicle manufactures have installed certain electronic signaling system to keep drivers aware of the state of their vehicles.

One of the electronic signaling systems is the check engine light.

The check engine light is simply a warning device that detects problems with the car’s engine and other related parts. The check engine light has not been set on the dashboard by the manufactures for no reason.

The check engine light often pops out with blinking or steady light when there are issues concerning the vehicle’s engine system. The lights are normally yellow, red or orange depending on the type of vehicle. The colors often vary from vehicle to vehicle.

So when you’re driving and then suddenly the check engine lights pops up what does it mean?

It indicates one of the following:

  1. Poor fuel economy of the car
  2. Emitting of pollutants from the car’s system
  3. Problem with the electronic control system
  4. Problems with the engine speed and conditions

The check engine system has a trouble code that records the main issue that led to the popping up of the light. With an electronic scan tool, your mechanic can find the main issue with the engine. But when the light shows up, you have to know that there’s an issue with the vehicle’s engine system.

So what do you do?

Well, here are some few things you must do before seeing your auto mechanic.

  1. Check on the dashboard gauge
  2. Check and tight the vehicle’s gas cap well
  3. Reduce your level of speed

If any of the above isn’t working well, the best thing to do is to call on your mechanic for a check up on vehicle’s engine system and resolve the problem.

Installing Speed Governors: Look For Experience and Credibility

Installing Speed Governors: Look For Experience and Credibility

The role of speed governors in reducing and managing road accidents cannot be underestimated. Over speeding, reckless driving, road rage among the top causes of road accidents in most countries.

In view of this, many countries have legalized the installing of speed governors in private and commercial vehicles to control road accidents. But then what a pity that most operators installing g speed governors are ill equipped to do the job well.

Speed governors are digital devices that are set forth to control and restrict speed range of vehicles. Many ill equipped operators either tamper with the speed governors so that they malfunction or they set ineffective speed governors for drivers.

Fixing speed governors is a simple technical process.

Here is are basic instruction in installing speed governors.

  1. The speed governor yellow wire is connected to the vehicle speed meter signal wire. So that it can technical readings of the speed governor can be displayed on the meter board.
  2. Set the speed governor unit connections accurately.
  3. A voltage meter should be used to read the wires between the electronic throttle and brake pedal.
  4. The wires should then be cut off and connected to the controlling unit which is 0.4V and 0.7V.

However, it has to be done by experienced, trained and credible engineers who understand the dynamics of installing speed governors. If it’s not being done well, drivers will risk exceeding speed range and expose themselves to road accidents.

Importance of Engine Management Systems in Vehicles

Importance of Engine Management Systems in Vehicles

People say, “Don’t mind the body, mind the engine.” But what if the engine is as bad as the body? Then it means it’s worthless. A car with an improper engine will do no good to you event if it has been recently sprayed.

That is why engine management systems are very important. Engine management systems are Engine Control Units (ECU) which receives signals from variety of sensors, make calculations and send output signal to various functions of a vehicle to ensure efficient operations.

Engine management systems are known to be the operating system of an engine. They can carry about 500 million operations per seconds in the operation of the engine. This ensures an efficient working of various parts of the vehicle.

The following are the core functions of engine management systems:

  1. Reduce emissions
  2. Ensure better fuel economy
  3. Ensure efficient engine operations
  4. Ensures the driving models of vehicles

Engine management systems receive sensory data from variety of sources. The sources include: craft shaft sensor, camshaft sensor, mass airflow sensor, air temperature, coolant temperature, knock sensory, oxygen sensory and many more.

These signals received are processed and sent to variety of places to ensure the vehicle is functioning well. The better the operation of the engine management system, the more efficient the engine and other vital areas of the vehicle will be.

Vehicle Maintenance: Top 7 Things You Must Always Keep Watch Off

Vehicle Maintenance: Top 7 Things You Must Always Keep Watch Off

Vehicle maintenance is everything.

If you’re not ready to maintain your car, then there’s no need buying it in the first place. Following a regular schedule on maintaining your car can save you a lot of time, money and energy. Just by investing a little time and money checking on your car, you’ll extend the vehicle life span, ensure safety and save a lot money in the bank.

The key for vehicle maintenance is to always follow your manufacture’s manual. Your manufacture’s manual provides a sure guide on the frequency, mode and specifications for maintenance. However, there are 7 critical things you must keep watch off with regards to your vehicle maintenance.

  1. Fluids
  2. Engine Air Filter
  3. Brakes
  4. Battery
  5. Tires
  6. Wipers
  7. Belt

Fluids

You have to see your fluids as the lifeblood of your vehicle. A good vehicle maintenance practice therefore will be to change your fluids regularly. There are a lot of prescriptions out there, but the key is to always refer to your manufacture’s prescription.

When it comes to changing fluids, there’re many fluids to use based on the Owner’s Manual: brake fluid, clutch fluid, power steering fluid, battery electrolyte fluid, windscreen washer fluid and many others.

Engine Air Filter

If your fluids are your car’s lifeblood, then your engine air filter is your car’s lungs. If you allow your car’s lungs—engine air—filter absorb dirty air, it can affect the internal operation of your vehicle. This is often the case when driving on dirty roads. So it is good to change your engine filter regularly!

Brakes

If your brakes fail, you know you will be in trouble. So the best thing to do is to always ensure that your brake system is always functioning well, change worn out brake paddle and always fluid your brake system.

Battery

Your battery is the powerhouse of your car. If you don’t practice good vehicle maintenance, your battery can be ruined. So always check terminals for corrosion, top up battery fluid, clean the battery regularly with a battery cleaning brush and ensure that the battery is not leaking.

Tyres

You know that if your legs hurt, then it will be very difficult for you to move around. If your vehicles legs—the tyres –are not in good shape, you may not be able to move around. Always check the tyre pressure and ensure it is well inflated, regularly rotate and balanced to ensure they wear evenly. Also check out for tears in the tyre and replace your worn out tyres as soon as possible.

Wipers

Your windscreen is your car’s eyes. Without visibility, you’ll be exposing yourself to danger. So the very first vehicle maintenance clue is to clean and dust your windscreen regularly—both inside and outside. Then check up on your wipers and change them if they are not functioning well in wiping off the windscreen to ensure visibility.

Belt

If you fail to regularly change your vehicle’s belt, you may be shortening your vehicle’s life span.  You always have to refer to your manufacture’s manual to quickly know the frequency of replacement. But all the same, your timing and serpentine belts should be changed according to the miles prescribed in your Owner’s Manual.

Body

Above all, keep your vehicle clean and tidy. Wash your car regularly: both inside and outside. To avoid driving in dirty smelling car, just visit your car wash and give a good wash to your car. This will go a long way of ensuring that the paintings do not spill off.

Importance of Vehicle Emission Controls in the Environment

Importance of Vehicle Emission Controls in the Environment

One of the major pollutants in the environment is vehicle emissions. Air pollutants from vehicle emissions have been one of the cons of motor vehicles. These air pollutants affect climate changes, health, physiology of plants, animal species and the ecosystem.

Pollutants from vehicle emissions are often called, “Anthropogenic Pollutions.” These emissions are usually produced through the internal combustion of motor engines. The combustion engines emit harmful gases though the exhaust which pollutes the environment.

The following are some notable harmful vehicle emissions:

  1. Hydrocarbons
  2. Carbon monoxide
  3. NOx
  4. Particulate matter
  5. Sulphur oxide
  6. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

In view of the release of these harmful air pollutants into the environment, there is a need for vehicle emission controls. Though it may not be stopped completely, vehicle emission controls can help curb the problem.

Well, here are top 3 vehicle emission controls to deal with the release of harmful pollutants into the environment.

  1. Exhaust Gas Circulator

Exhaust Gas Circulator is a system that reduces the temperature of combustion chambers. By reducing the temperature of combustion, it dilutes the mattered amount of exhaust and intend reduces the formation of Nox. Many vehicle engines have been built to perform this function.

  1. Air Injector

The main function of the air injector is to release air into the mainstream of the exhaust so as to ensure that hydrocarbons finish burning. Through oxidation reactions, the air injector can help to reduce the emission of air pollutants.

  1. Catalyst Convertor

The main role of catalyst convertors is to convert harmful gases into harmless gases. The device is often placed in the exhaust pipe and injected with catalysts such as platinum and palladium and rhodium to convert harmful gases such as carbon monoxides, hydrocarbons and Nox. into through chemical reactions.

5 Responsibilities of Drivers in Road Safety

5 Responsibilities of Drivers in Road Safety

Yes, you own your car. But you do not own the road. One foolish mistake of a driver can result in a serious fatal accident which can take a lot of lives.  This is the more reason why you have to always be aware of the responsibilities of drivers in road safety.

As road accidents increase at astronomical rate stemming from drunk driving, over speeding, improper vehicles, flouting traffic regulations and many more, drivers must become more attune to their responsibilities in road safety.

To get going, the following are some key responsibilities of drivers in road safety.

  1. Ensure The Vehicle is Road Worthy

Driving faulty and poorly maintained vehicle is one of the major causes of road accidents. It is even amazing that many drivers know for sure that their vehicle needs maintenance, but they put the vehicle on the road causing serious havoc to themselves and pedestrians. Ensure your vehicle is road worthy, don’t over load to exceed the required weight limit for the car.

  1. Drive at Reasonable Speed

Over speeding kills! There’s no doubt about that. And the ways to control over speeding is by driving at a reasonable speed and ensure you have installed a speed governor for your car. Speed governors are special devices that help restrict and limit vehicle speed so as to avoid over speeding.

  1. Be Alert and Self Aware of the Environment When Driving

It’s not enough to focus on the road. You also have to be alert, aware and attentive to the environment. You have to be aware of your vehicle sounds, pedestrians walking by the street, music jamming, other vehicles moving, other driver’s signals and many other things. It may not your mistake, but another person’s mistake that may most likely result in a road accident.

  1. Observe Traffic Regulations

One of the responsibilities of drivers in road safety that must be well noted is observance of traffic regulations. For many reasons such as lateness, pressure, stress and many others, drivers flout road traffic regulations which often culminate in road accidents. Simply observe traffic regulations and avoid road accidents.

  1. Parking and Passing Unauthorized Routs

Many drivers are culprits in parking at the wrong places. They just park anywhere and anyhow, forgetting that they may be exposing themselves or other drivers to road accidents: double parking, parking on the road and many others. It is also important to always park well and also avoid taking the wrong routes when driving.
