Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

Sharing is caring!

As long as we remain on the earth, we can’t do away with driving. You have to drive your car to meet your appointments and scheduled destinations. But you must also take action against things that will increase your risk of road accidents and injuries.

Drinking and driving are enemies. When you get behind your steering wheel after drinking alcohol is a serious offence. This offense is punishable by law and nature. The way nature punishes you is through road accidents, road traffic injuries and even road accident death.

Driving under the influence of alcohol or while intoxicated is simply driving a car with blood alcohol content (BAC) level being at least 0.08%. At this stage the alcohol is likely to have an impact on your driving—even if there are no clear warning signs.

It takes 30 minutes to 2 hours for the alcohol you drunk to be absorbed into your blood stream. During this process, your breathing slows down and the effectiveness of your cognitive skills is reduced. This impairs and impacts your driving skills.

You may be an experienced driver with good driving skills. But when you are driving under the influence of alcohol, your driving skills will be seriously affected by the drink. This will expose you to the risk of road traffic accidents.

When you are driving under the influence of alcohol, four things happen to you.

  • Blurred Vision: Alcohol affects the way you see things. It makes you see things blur as well not being able to notice objects in front of you correctly.
  • Impaired Judgment: Once your vision has been affected, your sense of judgment will be impaired. You may not be able to correctly calculate the distance between you and other vehicles.
  • Reduced Concentration: Safe driving requires you to be focus on the road and fully concentrated. But when you’re driving under the influence of alcohol, your level of concentration is reduced.
  • Slow Response Rate: Since your level of concentration has been reduced, you will not be able to quickly respond to the environment, issues on the road and many others which may lead to road accidents.

Are you struggling from driving under the influence of alcohol? Talk to your doctor or a health professional to help you. It is dangerous to be driving under the influence of alcohol.
