5 Simple Tips on How to Drive Safely on Downhill Roads

5 Simple Tips on How to Drive Safely on Downhill Roads

Driving in a rugged terrain can be challenging to most motorists. Winding around the mountain can be fun, but driving safely on downhill roads or uphill is challenging. Driving uphill can cause your car to overheat and may lead to car breakages as a result.

Your car might not be having a strong engine to survive the uphill drive, but it can surely drive downhill because of the help from gravity. If the road gradient is high, your car brakes may not offer the full support to stop your car whenever you want to stop it while driving.

It is important to take precautions when driving downhill to avoid accidents. This article will explain to you what to do to drive safely on downhill roads.

  1. Shift to a lower gear to preserve the brakes

When driving downhill, your car gears are what should be used rather than brakes to slow down the car. The brake pads will fail after sometime due to too much friction applied on them trying to slow down the car. What you should do is to shift the car to a lower gear, one that can drive the car slowly.

If you apply the gear, the car will drive slowly downhill and come to a halt when in the bottom of the hill.

  1. Look out for corners to avoid sliding off the road

Some roads are not straight downhill. They can twist around a mountain at times. You as a driver ought to look out for these corners and slow down the car when you want to make a turn.

At times, gravity may speed up your car and the road is not straight. Apply brakes and turn the car slowly to avoid slipping off the road.

  1. Make sure you are in the right lane

Sometimes, your car may be in the wrong lane and it’s speeding downhill, other cars might be driving uphill too, it may be too late to change to the right lane considering your car is speeding due to gravity. What you need to do to avoid any accident that may occur is to drive in the right lane.

  1. The gear should not be neutral

Shifting the gear to a neutral position when driving is not a good option, the engine is not in your control. The only option left when you want to slow down your car is to use the brakes. As we discussed earlier, using the car brakes can damage them due to too much friction.

In addition, you cannot react fast to a bad road condition in front when the gear is neutral. You ought to engage gears to drive safely on downhill roads.

  1. Become careful when there is a downpour

Driving when it is raining is dangerous, especially when you are driving downhill. The road might not be tarmac too.

During this time, the road is too slippery and dangerous because brakes or the low gear might not help much. Visibility too is low. The best thing is to be very careful when driving.

How GPS Car Tracker Can Help Reduce Road Accidents

How GPS Car Tracker Can Help Reduce Road Accidents

Each year, we are faced with high number of people involved in road accidents on the road. Most of these people tend to be innocent pedestrians or passengers who are paying painfully as a result of a reckless driving behavior of a driver. Having all these woes battling and alarming us each and every year, one of the best ways to deal with the challenge is to install GPS Tracking Devices on the car.

GPS Car Tracker is very good in tracking and monitoring vehicles. We would say that it is mandatory for all vehicles to install a GPS car tracker. It does not only protect the car from being stolen by thieves, it also play a critical role in preventing and reducing road accidents.

The top three causes of road accidents are said to be over speeding, distracted driving and driving under influence. Over speeding has killed many people and shorten their lives. Many people have also died as a result of driving under influence (DUI). It is no wonder DUI cases are very rampant in many developed and developing countries.  Distraction from texting, social medial, calls, chatting and many others are the first hand causes of road traffic collisions.

So how does a GPS car tracker helps to reduce car related accidents?

GPS car tracker can help monitor the speed of a moving vehicle. If the vehicle exceeds the designated limit for the car, the fleet manager would automatically receive an alert which is sent via text messages or e-mail. With the help of this information, the fleet manager can be able to know how to deal with drivers who are over speeding with the company vehicle.

The GPS car tracker also helps to reduce distracted driving. Instead looking at the Google Maps on mobile phone for directions, GPS car tracker with a two way hands free communication can help to overcome all kinds of distractions with regards to the use of cars. With the monitoring of car, the fleet manager can be in a good position to track if the driver is engaged in a reckless driving. This would go in a long way to help reduce road traffic accidents.

How Speed Governors Help Reduce Car-Related Deaths

How Speed Governors Help Reduce Car-Related Deaths

Speeding is arguably the number one cause of road accidents. Many people have lost their dear lives as a result of over speeding. This often happens in the weekends and on weekdays during rush hour period. Road traffic accidents, resulting from over speeding has killed many people and is still doing so.

One of the ways to deal with this menace is to ensure that all drivers install speed governors in their car. When drivers install speed governors in their car, it would be much easier to track, monitor and control the speed of vehicles—which would in effect deal with the issue of over speeding. Dealing with all this issues would go a long way to reduce car related deaths that occurs on the road each year.

It all starts with sensitizing drivers on the use of speed governors—understanding the importance and relevance of speed governors in maintaining road safety. Police officials and the State has to play an active role in this massive campaign and education. Apart from that companies that deals in the sales of speed governors like Eureka Technical Services must also educate drivers on the need to install speed governors in their car.

Due to the rampant occurrence of road traffic accidents, many countries have taken a pragmatic approach to deal with the issue. This includes setting a standard speed limit to deal with all issues and concerns with regards to road traffic accidents. The Rwanda National Police, Road Safety and the Sate, for instance has set 60km/hr maximum speed to regulate all drivers. This was done after several considerations.

After a careful consideration of several factors that leads to road traffic accidents, they settled on this specific number. In addition to enforcing the speed limit, they have made it mandatory for all drivers to install speed governors in their car. This has helped to reduce the road accidents as well as accident related death.

According to the Rwanda Police Reports, they recorded 541 cases of which 25 people had been killed and74 seriously injured between August 2016 and January 2017, before the introduction of those speed governors.

And then during the period between February-July 2017, the Rwanda National Police says it recorded 424 accidents that killed 14 people while those injured were 54. These figures led the police to the conclusion that the use of speed governors was yielding positive results. That means installation of speed governors inn cars is very important in reducing road accidents and car-related deaths.

3 Ways to Prevent Over Speeding of Your Car Engine

3 Ways to Prevent Over Speeding of Your Car Engine

Over speeding is a condition in which an engine produces speed greater than its design speed. This happens in the engines of automobiles, jet planes, motorcycles and other engines. When the engine of your car is allowed to over speed, it has a lot of negative consequences and effects on the car’s engine.

The effects may vary from engine to engine, depending on the engine type, model, duration of the over speed and the speed attained. The effects are that, the life span of the engine can be greatly reduced or could cause permanent damage to the engine. So as a car owner, it is important to prevent over speeding in your car engine.

Over speeding can occur in your car engine when you drop down 1 or 2 gears at highways speed.  So how can you prevent over speeding in your car engine? Here are three ways to prevent over speeding in your car engine:

  1. To prevent over speeding in your car, fit your car engine with a regulator or a governor to make engine over speed impossible or reduce the possibility.
  2. If your car is the large diesel engine type, you can fit a secondary protection device that will actuate if the governor fails. This consist of a flap valve in the air intake. Should the engine over speed the flow of air through the intake will rise to an abnormal level. This will cause the flap valves to snap shut, starving the engine of air and shutting the engine down.
  3. Also, all modern vehicles are fitted with an electronic rev limiter device that cuts fuel supply or causes sparks to the engine, which in turn prevents over speed in the engine.

Prevent over speeding in your car engines by using the above mentioned tips.
